Sheamus Wins
Rumble Match
Sheamus won the 30-Man Royal Rumble Match
ST. LOUIS — WWE fans are going to see a fight at this year’s WrestleMania.
Using his brute strength to triumph over 29 other Superstars, the mighty Sheamus was victorious in the Royal Rumble Match, dumping Chris Jericho to earn a World Title opportunity against a champion of his choosing at WrestleMania XXVIII on April 1. (PHOTOS)
It was a grueling battle for the powerhouse who drew No. 22. Entering before a sold-out crowd that had already witnessed Ricardo Rodriguez rolling to the ring in an ’85 Datsun, Kofi Kingston walking on his hands to avoid elimination and Michael Cole jumping over the top rope to escape the wrath of Kharma, The Celtic Warrior immediately made his presence felt by launching Kingston out of the ring.
From there, the Rumble became a demolition derby of battered bodies and unpredictable arrivals. Booker T, Jerry “The King” Lawler and Michael Cole all left the broadcast booth at one point to try their luck in the bout, but were quickly sent back to their announce table with damaged egos. Old school fan favorites like Mick Foley, “Hacksaw” Jim Duggan and Road Dogg returned to rousing ovations — only to be chucked from the squared circle by dangerous upstarts like Cody Rhodes, Dolph Ziggler and Wade Barrett. Big Show, twice a runner-up in the Rumble, made a huge impact from the 30 spot, tossing Jack Swagger, Rhodes, The Miz and Ziggler in rapid succession.
When the Royal Rumble Match came down to the all-important final four, it was Big Show, Sheamus, Chris Jericho and Randy Orton left standing in the ring. Quickly, though, the 30-man melee was left to two Superstars as The Viper heaved The World’s Largest Athlete only to be immediately eliminated by Jericho.
WWE fans, knowing they would see a first time Royal Rumble Match winner tonight, began to shake the Scottrade Center as Y2J and The Great White waged a dramatic battle for supremacy. When Jericho sent Sheamus over the top rope, the big man hung on and came right back. When The Celtic Warrior dismissed his opponent, Jericho would find a way to return.
The back-and-forth brawl pushed both men to their physical limit before the nefarious Superstar made the mistake of going for his patened Codebreaker. Snatching Jericho in midair, Sheamus deposited the man who promised “the end of the world” over the top rope and then blasted him with The Brogue Kick to make sure he was gone for good.
It was an important victory for the SmackDown Superstar. A year ago, The Celtic Warrior’s WrestleMania XXVI bout against Daniel Bryan was bumped from the card at the last minute. This year, he’ll be competing for a World Title. Don’t expect The Great White to let this opportunity slip through his fingers.

In a fast-paced battle, Michael McGillicutty perfectly served up Trent Barreta for tag team partner David Otunga to drop the elbow and pick up the victory.
Mark Henry def. Vladimir Kozlov
Mark Henry came right out of the gate with a powerful offense and never looked back. After downing Vladimir Kozlov with The World’s Strongest Slam for the win, he wrapped Kozlov’s leg in a steel chair and dropped his massive frame on his helpless victim. Then from out of nowhere, Sheamus charged the ring, looking to take a swipe at Henry with a steel chair. But Henry quickly avoided a strike and then stared down his SummerSlam opponent from outside the ring. Then in a familiar scene, Kozlov was removed from the ring on a stretcher. Later, Sheamus talked about facing Henry at Summer Slam
Intercontinental Champion Ezekiel Jackson def. Zack Ryder
In an impressive showing, Zack Ryder held his own against big Ezekiel Jackson. However, the champion eventually asserted his dominance in a big way by repeatedly slamming GM Teddy Long’s assistant to the canvas then punishing him with a session in his Torture Rack.
Zack Ryder made a “State of the Showski” Address
Attempting to make his mark on Friday nights, Zack Ryder addressed the WWE Universe about his new support role to Long. However, he was quickly interrupted by Jackson, who took umbrage with Ryder pitting him against Cody Rhodes and Ted DiBiase in a Handicap Match last week. When Rhodes and DiBiase joined in the discussion, Teddy put an end to all of the talk and pit Ryder in a match against Jackson.
Daniel Bryan def. Tyson Kidd
In a battle that remained competitive until the very end, Mr. Money in the Bank Daniel Bryan made Tyson Kidd tap out using an asphyxiating submission move. Helping call the action at the announce table was Wade Barrett, who said it was a fluke that Bryan won at Money in the Bank.
Natalya def. AJ
In a match pitting mentor vs. protégé, Natalya made AJ submit to the Sharpshooter. But, the powerful blonde wasn’t content with just the win. After the match, she taught AJ another lesson by brutally assaulting her outside the ring. Then, after saying “Beth Phoenix, I’m with you sister,” Natalya crouched over AJ and declared: “The days of the cute, perky little princesses are over”!
Sheamus def. The Great Khali
Sheamus continued to show just how tough he really is. In a stunning turnabout, The Celtic Warrior escaped The Khali Vise Grip – a move that usually spells the end for most Superstars. Then, using a Brogue Kick to the head, Sheamus took down one of WWE’s largest Superstars. Can Sheamus carry this momentum into SummerSlam against Mark Henry?

Sheamus vs. Mark Henry
Announced exclusively on WWE.com, Mark Henry and Sheamus will collide at SummerSlam in a rivalry that has quickly grown more intense than the summer sun itself. But, will the fight of The Celtic Warrior be enough to overcome the meanest “Fella” in all the land?
Mark Henry’s recent rampage – over any and all that have gotten in his way – has sent shock waves throughout WWE. He took out the likes of Big Show, Kane (Watch), Vladimir Kozlov and even a WWE sound technician who fell onto his dangerous radar . It seems that Henry derives pleasure not just with defeating his opponents, but by destroying them completely. And as a result of his enraged attacks, not only is a lawsuit pending against him, but SmackDown General Manager Theodore Long can no longer find Superstars willing to meet him in the ring.
That was until the fierce Sheamus decided to pick a fight with The World’s Strongest Man. On the July 29 edition of SmackDown, the Irish grappler laid down the gauntlet of battle, shocking the WWE Universe by slapping The World’s Largest Athlete. He then dropped from the top rope to avoid Henry’s charge and sent the enraged Superstar plummeting to the ringside floor.
No one can deny that Sheamus has a great love for battle, fused with a brutal nature that is sure to give him an incredible match against the infuriated Henry. But whether the luck of the Irish will allow him to triumph over his massive adversary at The Biggest Event of the Summer remains to be seen.

World Heavyweight Champion Christian vs. Randy Orton - No Holds Barred Match
At SummerSlam, World Heavyweight Champion Christian will attempt to cool the intense heat of his No. 1 contender Randy Orton in a brutal No Holds Barred Match for the World Title.
The epic showdown was created by WWE’s new Chief Operating Officer Triple H on the July 29 edition of SmackDown (WATCH), in the midst of a sea of controversy surrounding the circumstances by which Christian captured his second World Title from The Viper at WWE’s Money in the Bank pay-per-view.
But, ultimately, the fuse for the explosive rivalry between Christian and Randy Orton was lit just five days after Christian fulfilled a lifelong dream, winning the World Heavyweight Championship for the first time at Extreme Rules . Before his reign could even get off the ground, Randy Orton pinned his shoulders to the mat on the very next SmackDown and shattered his whole world. WWE’s Apex Predator then defeated his prey again in a hard-fought rematch at WWE Capitol Punishment.
Over the next several weeks, Christian’s inability to recover the illustrious title started to eat away at him. Already convinced that he could beat The Viper, he began to believe that SmackDown General Manager Theodore Long, Orton and even the WWE Universe were ultimately preventing him from reclaiming what was rightfully his.
Refusing to speak directly to the WWE Universe any longer, the resentful Christian soon enlisted the help of lawyers to correct what he believed was an unlevel playing field. This led to a special condition in the contract for his World Heavyweight Championship Match with Orton at Money in the Bank: If Orton was disqualified, Christian would automatically be awarded the title.
Once such a stipulation was in place, controversy seemed inevitable. And when Christian spat in the face of his adversary during their pay-per-view battle, Orton would be unable to stop his uncontrollable rage. Hitting his No.1 contender with a low blow, The Viper was immediately disqualified. And regardless of what the stunned WWE Universe thought, Christian once again held the title in his grasp.
No matter how Christian won the World Heavyweight Championship, no one can deny his tremendous ability in the ring. But, with no a disqualification clause to stand behind, can he overcome the uncontainable anger of Randy Orton at the Biggest Event of the Summer? Find out at SummerSlam, Sunday Aug. 14 at 8/4 PT, only on pay-per-view.

A Crime
at 'Punishment'?
at 'Punishment'?
In a classic confrontation, Randy Orton retained his World Heavyweight Title at Capitol Punishment. But The Viper's victory Sunday night has Christian fuming - perhaps understandably.
World Heavyweight Champion Randy Orton def. Christian
WASHINGTON, D.C. – Controversy always exists at the seat of Government and WWE Capitol Punishment’s World Heavyweight Title contest was no exception.
Although Randy Orton managed to retain the World Heavyweight Championship, the official did not notice that Christian’s foot was clearly underneath the ropes. While Captain Charisma tried to filibuster the official to reverse the decision, Orton vetoed the argument and found retribution by nailing Christian with the World
The rivalry between Captain Charisma and World Heavyweight Champion Randy Orton has become more heated than a Congressional healthcare debate in recent weeks. The Verizon Center in our nation’s capital set the stage for the most intense contest between the two Superstars yet. In their previous meetings, a great deal of mutual respect existed between the two competitors, however, this particular bout was more about proving which ring warrior is truly the more worthy champion.
When the dust settled, there was no obvious answer due to the controversy that surrounded the official’s three-count. While Randy Orton remained the World Heavyweight Champion, if judges were to score the bout based on the action and competitiveness of both Superstars, it could possibly have been a split decision. The two ring warriors battled back and forth, trading the advantage and trying to best the other’s strategy. In the end, only one thing remained constant other than the determination of both competitors - the RKO can strike in the blink of an eye.
Usually the RKO signifies the end of an opponent’s attempt to defeat WWE’s Apex Predator. Christian’s foot clearly being underneath the ropes during the official’s count asked the question of what could have been for Captain Charisma? Before the official could review his own decision, Orton hit Christian with the title, returning the favor for two separate occasions leading up to this match.
This rivalry once highlighted the mutual respect between the two Superstars; but it has since become much more personal. Finally winning the World Title after 17 years, only to lose it five days later, and failing to regain the title at WWE Over the Limit, has left Christian bitter and selfish.
That second defeat at the hands of WWE’s Apex Predator triggered Captain Charisma to renounce his Peeps and essentially become a Superstar on a mission with one primary objective – regain the World Heavyweight Championship. Orton’s goal, however, was to show Christian that whenever the two clash, The Viper will come out on top. Neither Superstar definitively completed their objectives at WWE Capitol Punishment.
With the World Title controversy surrounding our nation's capital, Captain Charisma will no doubt exercise his right of free speech in hopes of turning the tide in his World Championship campaign on SmackDown, Friday at 8/7 CT, on SyFy.

Jackson's Capitol

Gain
At Capitol Punishment Sunday, the WWE Universe in Washington, D.C. hailed Ezekiel Jackson as the new Intercontinental Champion, when "The Personification of Domination" defeated former Corre cohort Wade Barrett.
Ezekiel Jackson def. Wade Barrett (New Intercontinental Champion)
WASHINGTON D.C. – At WWE Capitol Punishment, Ezekiel Jackson captured the Intercontinental Championship with a monumental victory over former Corre cohort Wade Barrett. With his triumph, “The Personification of Domination” attaches his legacy to an elite few that have carried the illustrious title on their path to WWE glory – including Pat Patterson, Tito Santana, Randy Savage, The Honky Tonk Man, Shawn Michaels, Bret “Hit Man” Hart, Chris Jericho, Eddie Guerrero and Triple H.
Before the match, Intercontinental Champion Wade Barrett emerged before the Washington members of the WWE Universe with a microphone in his hand, ready to point out the shortcomings of both the United States of America and his opponent Ezekiel Jackson.
But, once the bell rang, the intense dislike between the two former associates took center stage in an absolutely brutal battle that rocked WWE to the “Corre.” And after stunning the WWE Universe by kicking out of Barrett’s devastating Wasteland, the powerful Jackson broke loose, delivering a series of crippling body slams, before making the English Superstar tap-out with the backbreaker.
After scoring the biggest victory of his career, the ecstatic new Intercontinental Champion expressed to Jerry “The King” Lawler his enthusiastic belief in liberty and “The Personification of Domination.”
Standing side by side as members of the dominating faction The Corre – along with Heath Slater and Justin Gabriel – Barrett and Jackson were once perceived as equals, poised to bring a new era of domination to SmackDown. But, shortly after Barrett won the Intercontinental Title, he and his bruising brethren began to raise questions as to whether Jackson was pulling his weight.
The ruthless Brit’s superiority-by-numbers formula was further disrupted when Jackson began to demonstrate independence from his comrades-in-arms. Things reached an absolute boil on the May 6 edition of SmackDown when, after walking out on The Corre, the chiseled Superstar was officially “excommunicated” from the group with a painful exclamation point.
In the weeks that followed, Jackson fell prey to the overwhelming 3-on-1 advantage of the Corre’s remaining members, ultimately keeping Barrett’s title inches from his grasp. But, the final ECW Champion would gain the upper hand, out-battering his former allies on several occasions. And when a disgruntled Gabriel and Slater finally disassociated themselves from Barrett, it became evident that his Intercontinental Championship reign was in real jeopardy – a threat that would prove true at Capitol Punishment.
With WWE’s explosive new pay-per-view, the age of Intercontinental Champion Ezekiel Jackson has dawned on SmackDown. Who will dare attempt to knock this golden master of muscle off the mountain? Find out on Friday night at 8/7 CT, only on Syfy.

Present Danger
Two nights before World Heavyweight Champion Randy Orton and Christian squared-off at WWE Capitol Punishment, WWE’s Apex Predator sent a strong message to Captain Charisma with a lethal punt to The Celtic Warrior Sheamus.
SmackDown results: A “Capitol” offense
PROVIDENCE, Rhode Island – Just two nights before WWE’s newest pay-per-view Capitol Punishment unleashes its fury on the WWE Universe, Sheamus fell to Christian in a brutal bid to grab his place at the golden table. And the fierce tempers of World Heavyweight Champion Randy Orton and Big Show threatened to rock SmackDown to its very foundations.
Christian def. Sheamus
Just when The Celtic Warrior looked ready to execute a superplex to Christian off the top rope, his crafty opponent dropped back and caused Sheamus’ head to smack against the steel ring post. Seizing the opportunity, the No. 1 contender to the World Heavyweight Championship jumped into the ring and quickly pinned his Irish adversary. As a result, Sheamus was denied an opportunity to join the World Title match this Sunday at Capitol Punishment. When Randy Orton jumped into the ring moments after the bell, Captain Charisma fled up the ramp. Nevertheless, The Viper sent him a powerful message by punting the war-torn Sheamus in the head. Will a concussion keep WWE’s Apex Predator from overcoming the resourceful Christian this Sunday? (Preview)
After Alberto Del Rio claimed he would spit in the face of Big Show if he were standing in front of him, the furious World’s Largest Athlete nearly broke SmackDown General Manager Theodore Long’s earlier order not to lay a finger on his aristocratic adversary. When the giant charged to the ring, focused on attacking his Capitol Punishment opponent, Del Rio quickly retreated into the crowd and up the stairs, leaving the irate giant to rip apart the ringside area.
The Usos def. Justin Gabriel & Heath Slater
In an extremely physical match-up, The Usos scored a huge victory over former WWE Tag Team Champions Heath Slater & Justin Gabriel, likely propelling themselves high into contention for a tag title opportunity. As Jimmy disposed of Slater with a jaw-dropping kick, Jey delivered an earth-shattering splash on Gabriel from the top rope to secure the victory. Alicia Fox, Rosa Mendes & Tamina def. Natalya, A.J. & Kaitlyn
In spite of another strong effort by the combined forces of A.J. & Kaitlyn – as well as their mentor, Natalya – Tamina took control, defeating A.J. with the Samoan Drop. With criminal and civil charges being considered against Big Show for his actions against Ricardo Rodriguez on Monday Night Raw four days earlier, SmackDown GM Theodore Long made it clear that The World’s Largest Athlete would not lay a finger on Alberto Del Rio if he showed up on SmackDown as rumored. If he did, both Big Show and Long could be fired. So, to keep the gigantic Superstar busy, Teddy put him in a match against Mark Henry.
Before the match could begin, however, Big Show’s rage took over. Without warning, he executed a vicious assault on The World’s Strongest Man. As the smoke cleared, the WWE Universe watched in awe as Henry had to be carried out on a stretcher.
Jinder Mahal def. Vladimir Kozlov
After The Great Khali delivered a vicious Khali Chop from outside the ring, Jinder Mahal triumphed over Vladimir Kozlov with a full nelson, suplex slam. Ezekiel Jackson, Sin Cara & Daniel Bryan def. Intercontinental Champion Wade Barrett, Ted DiBiase & Cody Rhodes
Following an explosive dropkick to Ted DiBiase in the corner, Daniel Bryan attempted the pin on his fallen foe. Although it was later determined that DiBiase’s shoulder did, in fact, raise off the canvas before the three-count, the referee failed to notice it. As a result, he awarded the victory to the team of Bryan, Jackson & Sin Cara. Sheamus earned the opportunity to compete for the World Title
Despite the fact that Randy Orton was diagnosed with a concussion, he made it clear he wanted immediate physical retribution against Christian. However, because GM Theodore Long had not received Orton’s official medical clearance, he refused to allow The Viper to compete on SmackDown. Interrupting Christian’s subsequent taunting of the World Heavyweight Champion, Sheamus made it clear that his non-title victory over Orton one week ago should have earned him a World Title match. As a result, Teddy Long decided that Christian and Sheamus would face off in the main event, giving Orton a ringside seat. If The Celtic Warrior won, he would be added to the World Title Match at Capitol Punishment this Sunday.

Booker T poked fun at Michael Cole
Four days after Michael Cole made a grand apology on Monday Night Raw for his despicable actions in recent months, Booker T called him into the ring. The former World Champion took great pleasure ridiculing the uncharacteristically humble announcer, displaying a picture of Cole kissing Jerry Lawler’s barbecue-sauce-covered feet at WWE Over the Limit and leading the WWE Universe in a “kiss my feet” chant. Already in a “nasty” mood over losing the WWE Tag Team Titles, and the injuries sustained by his tag team partner Big Show four days earlier on Monday Night Raw, The Big Red Monster overcame The Great Khali in an all-out “Monster's Brawl,” unleashing a vicious attack on his gigantic foe from the top rope.
Afterward, Jinder Mahal emerged, admonishing the defeated Khali in Punjabi before once again slapping him. When Mahal and Ranjin Singh got in each others’ faces, Khali stepped in. Then, without warning, Khali put the Vise Grip on his own brother. After leaving Singh completely incapacitated, Khali shocked the WWE Universe by leaving the ring with Mahal.
Ezekiel Jackson def. Heath Slater by Disqualification
After Jackson put Heath Slater in the painful backbreaker, Wade Barrett and Justin Gabriel stormed down to ringside to save him, drawing the disqualification. But, “The Personification of Domination” held his ground in powerful fashion, taking out all three of his former Corre cohorts.Daniel Bryan def. Cody Rhodes
Countering the Cross Rhodes at the last second, Daniel Bryan forced Cody Rhodes to tap-out to the Lebell Lock. Moments after the bell, Bryan was blind-sided by his bitter foe. After punishing his war-torn target with a massive assault that culminated in the Cross Rhodes, Rhodes added insult to injury by putting a paper bag on the fallen Superstar’s head.Sin Cara def. Chavo Guerrero

Despite another strong effort by the self-proclaimed “Mexican Warrior,” his masked adversary once again triumphed, using his extreme athleticism to drive Chavo’s head to the canvas with incredible force.SmackDown GM Theodore Long made a Triple Threat No. 1 Contender’s Match
After their epic championship showdown at WWE Over the Limit, Christian congratulated Randy Orton on his victory and asked him for another rematch. When Sheamus and Mark Henry took issue, Teddy Long came forth to lay down the law. Listening to the WWE Universe – who insisted in one voice that Christian still deserved a title opportunity – the SmackDown GM declared that the three challengers would battle it out in a Triple Threat main event to see who would face The Viper----------------------------------------------------------------
